My girlfriend goes to all my games, I made the mistake once of telling her what we were chirping about back and forth during faceoffs and such… had to explain the whole concept of how pissing them off can be beneficial the whole ride home.

Also, I’m 5′ 8″ as well, so hear ya out there. I get pushed around a bit, and I live with it. Its what I signed up for.

I share a lot of the sentiments here. I play in an adult league (Not mens.. because they let the ladies in… and I will knock them on their ass just the same, thats what they signed up for). It is a “No Checking” league. However, if you are playing the puck the ref keeps the whistle out of his mouth.

I’ve had a defensemen pinch and stonewall me. I’ve nailed a dude in the nuts (Dumb ass didn’t wear a cup that day) and had him on the ice crying(Seriously… I felt bad about it, but what was he thinking?). I’ve said some pretty harsh things to people in the middle of a game, we’ve traded some slahes and when being repeatedly hooked and slashed near the wrists(with no call) i’ve grabbed a dude’s stick out of his hands and thrown it across the ice and told him where to shove it when he retrieved it.

At the end of every game we shake hands. I’ve never felt ill will towards anyone at that point. The game is over, the testosterone levels are dropping. Everyone is a little bit more level headed… most of the time. There was one game where this goalie and her husband who was playing defense were being little uppity bitches. He had previously left a game early and skipped the handshake line(which is just classless if you ask me). They then complained to the hockey director who forced two of our players (Who were playing defense, and didn’t contribute any goals to the massive 11-2 victory for us) kicked off our team for being ringers.. The next game we still beat them, albeit much closer in 7-5. The goalie and her man both walked through the line, instead of shaking hands giving us the fingers and screaming vulgarities.

They are poor sports. These people exist in an adult league and they sure as hell exist in the NHL/AHL/NBA/NFL and the list goes on. I relayed the story to the hockey director and his reply was “I can’t believe that, they’ve taught some of our youth clinics and have been nothing but well received” So no repercussions for them. Just means when we play them again (checks pointstreak, damn we don’t this season) in the future I’m gonna try super hard to do whatever i can to beat them a third time and continue to be the better person after the game and off the ice.

1) It’s hockey

2) Berry Melrose once said, “I never want to see the day when cowards can play our game.”
