One more episode before the Holidays, and we deliver an early Chrismahanukwanzaa present:

  • Call-up :: Hollis was en route back to Seattle and Petrella was back in the captain’s chair. Did someone say Technical Difficulties? Fret not, Disch and Stevie are there to pick up the pieces.
  • The Pipeline: Mitch Callahan :: A great chat with a great kid, the Griffins tough guy shares some stories from the road and gets the full TPL treatment.
  • Your Mustache Sucks, Too :: We offered Mitch (@emcy1five) a change to respond to Brendan Smith’s comments on the last episode about Callahan’s mustache. Turns out Smith is a super model, so he knows what’s hot.
  • Fan Moment :: What an awesome chat with a talented and promising young man, Nick Barnowski (@NickBarnowski). He tells us about his time in the Wings locker room, making friends with some of the guys, and shares some college plans. Make sure you follow his blog at www.nickonsportsblog.com.
  • Thirty Good Minutes :: Sarah Lindenau (@lindy72) of The Left Wing Lock swings by for a kick-ass chat about the prospects, the likelihood of a Wings deal, and whether or not this team is on Championship track.

Happy December!

The Wings close out November on a hot streak, winning their last six and ten of their last twelve. Suck it, losing streaks! On this episode:

  • Substitute Teacher :: Hollis is out of town and someone left Petrella in charge. Big mistake? Big mistake.
  • The Pipeline: Brendan Smith :: We chat with the Griffins defender and the Wings’ top prospect for a few minutes about his call-up to the Bigs and everything else we could think of to throw at him. Wait until you hear his favorite word.
  • Doug Janik Story Time :: Smith says that Janik is one of the best guys to grab a beer with… find out why.
  • I Love You, Man :: What’s Brendan’s pet peeve with his roommate, Gustav Nyquist?
  • Thirty Good Minutes :: Excellent guests this time as we welcome back Matt Saler of On the Wings — and have Clark Rasmussen of DetroitHockey.Net on for the first time. Both get the Lipton Treatment. Curmudgeon!
  • Topics of Interest! :: Re-allignment is back on the slate, as is Bobby Ryan, tradeable assets, Jonathan Ericsson, and the world coming to an end any minute now.
  • Stealing the Show :: Mrs. Saler hops on the phone to select a Disney hunk, forcing Matt’s hand.
  • Defenestration :: We learn new words sometimes. As new words go, that one’s really fucking good.

(Ed. Note: Before you get all up-in-arms, we are well aware of the incessant clicking throughout the entire length of the audio. We’re not sure what caused it, but rest assured we are looking into it and will have it remedied before the next episode. Otherwise, every show from here on out would sound like it has a ticking time bomb of fury attached, and that’s no good. We apologize for the inconvenience this week, but hope you can forgive us while still enjoying the show.)

This week on TP:60:

  • Fan Time!: Contest winner Matt Shea (@SpaceCityMatt) joins us to talk Doug Fister, NASA and moon theory. Look out for big words.
  • 30 Good Minutes: JJ and Graham from Winging It In Motown stop by. Did someone say Ville Leino?
  • On the Dot: Doug Johnson from Caps blog Puck Buddys stops by to verbally joust with the group about this weekend’s matchup with Ovi and company. He also talks about TPL asses.
  • The Pipeline: Now a part of TP:60, The Pipeline returns this week with Wings goaltending prospect Thomas McCollum.

The Pipeline: Tomas Jurco https://tpl.detroit.hockey/2011/10/18/the-pipeline-tomas-jurco/ Tue, 18 Oct 2011 13:00:10 +0000 https://tplarchive.detroithockey.net/?p=5220 With all the talent coming up through the Red Wings system, there’s plenty of unique stories, personalities and talents to share, and we here at TPL are doing our part to bring those to you via “The Pipeline.”

The Pipeline rolls on and this time we are thrilled to welcome YouTube and Red Wings training camp sensation Tomas Jurco to the show. Tomas talks with Petrella, Disch and Stevie about his incredible training camp, his future with the Saint John Sea Dogs and what he feels like he needs to improve upon before he finds his way to the AHL and eventually to the big club. Jurco also talks about playing with the big names on the Red Wings, how he kills time with his teammates and the growing legend of Chris Chelios’ workout regimen before squashing Disch’s dream of christening him with the nickname of “The Jerk.”

*A big thanks to Tomas Jurco and the Saint John Sea Dogs for being so accommodating.

The Pipeline: Gustav Nyquist https://tpl.detroit.hockey/2011/10/06/the-pipeline-gustav-nyquist/ https://tpl.detroit.hockey/2011/10/06/the-pipeline-gustav-nyquist/#comments Thu, 06 Oct 2011 14:47:12 +0000 https://tplarchive.detroithockey.net/?p=5150 With all the talent coming up through the Red Wings system, there’s plenty of unique stories, personalities and talents to share, and we here at TPL are doing our part to bring those to you via “The Pipeline.”

We’re back for Season 2 of “The Pipeline” and what better way to get us started than spending some time with one of the standouts of the Red Wings training camp, Gustav Nyquist. Gus talks to us about life in Grand Rapids with the Griffins, what his daily training routine looks like and what he took away from his time with the Wings in training camp. He also dishes on Chris Chelios’ tan, who would win in a shootout between former Maine Black Bears and (of course) which Disney Princess he would like to take out for a night on the town. Another promising Swede and another promising season of “The Pipeline.” It’s good to be  back.

*A big thanks to Gustav Nyquist, Kyle Kujawa and the Grand Rapids Griffins for being so accommodating.

The Pipeline: Cory Emmerton https://tpl.detroit.hockey/2011/03/04/the-pipeline-cory-emmerton/ Fri, 04 Mar 2011 22:26:52 +0000 https://tplarchive.detroithockey.net/?p=3804 With all the talent coming up through the Red Wings system, there’s plenty of unique stories, personalities and talents to share, and we here at TPL are doing our part to bring those to you via “The Pipeline.”

It’s time for another installment of “The Pipeline” and this time the guys welcome in current Grand Rapids Griffin and occasional Red Wing call-up Cory Emmerton. In his third full season in Hockeytown West, Emmerton has all the tools to be a skilled forward in the NHL, and we touch on some of the nice things Coach Babcock and the organization have to say about his future in red and white. On a day off before back-to-backs with Rochester, Cory was kind enough to take a few minutes to chat with us about hockey in the AHL, what it was like to net his first big league goal, and where his allegiance lies in the Great Portman / Kunis Dust-Up. He’s a great kid and we had a lot of fun with him — we hope to check in with him again before the end of the season.

*A big thanks to Cory Emmerton, Randy Rice, and the Grand Rapids Griffins for being so gracious and accommodating.

The Pipeline: Riley Sheahan https://tpl.detroit.hockey/2011/02/22/the-pipeline-riley-sheahan/ Tue, 22 Feb 2011 17:03:12 +0000 https://tplarchive.detroithockey.net/?p=3657 With all the talent coming up through the Red Wings system, there’s plenty of unique stories, personalities and talents to share, and we here at TPL are doing our part to bring those to you via “The Pipeline.”

It’s time for another installment of “The Pipeline” and this time the guys welcome in current Notre Dame forward Riley Sheahan. Currently a sophomore at ND, Sheahan was drafted in the first round (21st overall) of the 2010 NHL Draft and is a promising two-way forward with a physical presence to boot. Sheahan has tallied 3 goals and 14 assists this year, all while helping lead Notre Dame to the top of the CCHA standings. With a big home-and-home looming this weekend against Western Michigan – and the CCHA regular season championship on the line as well – Riley was still able to take some time out of his schedule to chat about his experience at the Draft last year, the emergence of hockey at Notre Dame and which NHL player he patterns his game after. Riley also gives some insight into the never-ending quest to find a Brett Lebda statue on ND’s campus, as well as answering the TPL Five Pack of questions to close things out.

*A big thanks to Riley Sheahan and the University of Notre Dame for being so gracious and accommodating.

The Pipeline: Petr Mrazek https://tpl.detroit.hockey/2011/02/16/the-pipeline-petr-mrazek/ Wed, 16 Feb 2011 17:00:01 +0000 https://tplarchive.detroithockey.net/?p=3587 With all the talent coming up through the Red Wings system, there’s plenty of unique stories, personalities and talents to share, and we here at TPL are doing our part to bring those to you via “The Pipeline.”

The newest installment of “The Pipeline” features Red Wings prospect and current Ottawa 67’s goaltender Petr Mrazek. Behind Mrazek – the 5th round (141st overall) pick of the Red Wings in the 2010 draft – the 67’s currently sit atop the OHL’s Eastern Conference East Division, largely in part to Mrazek’s 2.79 GAA, .922 save percentage and 28 wins. Mrazek will look to move into a tie for the league lead wins this year tonight against the Belleville Bulls, but first took a few minutes to chat with Petrella and Hollis about the transition to the North American game, his connection to the Red Wings and what it will take to elevate his game to the next level.

*A big thanks to Petr Mrazek and the Ottawa 67’s for being so gracious and accommodating.

With all the talent coming up through the Red Wings system, there’s plenty of unique stories, personalities and talents to share, and we here at TPL are doing our part to bring those to you. We’ll do our best to keep these coming to you on a regular basis, and we’re always open to your suggestions on questions and guests. Enjoy.

It’s the first installment of “The Pipeline” and who better to break in the hot seat than Red Wings prospect Landon Ferraro. Hollis and Petrella chat with Landon about his first season with the Everett Silvertips of the WHL, his progression and development as part of the Red Wings system and how he’s coping with being sidelined from hernia surgery. The guys also get the scoop on which member of the Ferraro clan is truly the best hockey player, as well as who would reign supreme in a fastest skater competition between Landon and Darren Helm.

*A big thanks to Landon Ferraro and the Everett Silvertips for being so gracious and accommodating.
