Disch and I are back for another episode of The Production Hour, and this time we’re honored to be joined by part-Griffin, part-Red Wing Chris Conner. The speedster was kind enough to take a half hour out of his pre-game ritual to talk shop, and we have some great nuggets to share:

  • Hometown Hero: what’s it like to sign with the Red Wings after growing up rooting for the team? Any chance we see him in a Red Wings uniform next season?
  • Dallas and Pittsburgh were nice, too. Some excellent insight into the decision-making process of players who are on the cusp on the NHL. Do you want to go to a team where you can be a full-time NHLer, or is it better to be a member of a great organization like the Wings and Pens?
  • Hitting the bars. Conner’s not much for the bar scene, but he confirms some rumors regarding which Griffins spend the most time in front of the mirror.
  • Saving Princess Peach. The last task is a foot race… who gets a kiss from Mario’s wifey: Conner, Helm, or Mursak? Also, if he was forced to create himself on NHL12, which attributes get the most attention?
  • Twitter. With more and more Griffins popping up on social media, how likely is it that we hear from Conner in 140 characters?
  • Disney Princess. You know we asked him.

Big thanks, once again, to the Grand Rapids Griffins and Kyle Kujawa for setting up a good time to chat with Chris Conner. And thanks to Chris Conner for taking a few minutes out of a game day to join us!

TP:60 — Episode 23 https://tpl.detroit.hockey/2012/01/31/tp60-episode-23/ Tue, 31 Jan 2012 14:32:26 +0000 https://tplarchive.detroithockey.net/?p=6153 Don’t forget, you can keep up-to-date on all of the latest TP:60 happenings – including previews for upcoming shows – at the TP:60 Home Page. After an involuntary hiatus (THANKS, GO DADDY!), we’re back with an abridged version of TP:60. Joining Disch and Petrella this week is Pro Hockey Talk on NBC‘s Joe Yerdon (@JoeYerdonPHT), who was live — in the flesh — in Montreal for the complete disaster of a game last week.

  • New Logo: Kick-ass serving from our lovely Stevie.
All-Star Festivities: Whose shootout goal was better — Kane or Perry — and can we all agree that they’re both douches?
  • Columbus? The Blue Jackets will host next year’s game…will that save hockey in Ohio? Hint: no.
  • Trade Deadline Approacheth. Will the Wings make a move? Who might be on their radar? Who can they get rid of for a return?
  • Lundqvist or Howard. Who do you build your team around? Stand by for a doozy.

Stay tuned for a full episode of TP:60 — which we hope to have up and running soon. A little bit of a tease: we have Chris Conner lined up for an interview as soon as we can coordinate everyone’s schedules, but we’re excited to have him and look forward to chatting with the part-time Red Wing.

One more episode before the Holidays, and we deliver an early Chrismahanukwanzaa present:

  • Call-up :: Hollis was en route back to Seattle and Petrella was back in the captain’s chair. Did someone say Technical Difficulties? Fret not, Disch and Stevie are there to pick up the pieces.

  • Your Mustache Sucks, Too :: We offered Mitch (@emcy1five) a change to respond to Brendan Smith’s comments on the last episode about Callahan’s mustache. Turns out Smith is a super model, so he knows what’s hot.
  • Fan Moment :: What an awesome chat with a talented and promising young man, Nick Barnowski (@NickBarnowski). He tells us about his time in the Wings locker room, making friends with some of the guys, and shares some college plans. Make sure you follow his blog at www.nickonsportsblog.com.
  • Thirty Good Minutes :: Sarah Lindenau (@lindy72) of The Left Wing Lock swings by for a kick-ass chat about the prospects, the likelihood of a Wings deal, and whether or not this team is on Championship track.

Happy December!

The Wings close out November on a hot streak, winning their last six and ten of their last twelve. Suck it, losing streaks! On this episode:

  • Substitute Teacher :: Hollis is out of town and someone left Petrella in charge. Big mistake? Big mistake.
  • The Pipeline: Brendan Smith :: We chat with the Griffins defender and the Wings’ top prospect for a few minutes about his call-up to the Bigs and everything else we could think of to throw at him. Wait until you hear his favorite word.
  • Doug Janik Story Time :: Smith says that Janik is one of the best guys to grab a beer with… find out why.
  • I Love You, Man :: What’s Brendan’s pet peeve with his roommate, Gustav Nyquist?
  • Thirty Good Minutes :: Excellent guests this time as we welcome back Matt Saler of On the Wings — and have Clark Rasmussen of DetroitHockey.Net on for the first time. Both get the Lipton Treatment. Curmudgeon!
  • Topics of Interest! :: Re-allignment is back on the slate, as is Bobby Ryan, tradeable assets, Jonathan Ericsson, and the world coming to an end any minute now.
  • Stealing the Show :: Mrs. Saler hops on the phone to select a Disney hunk, forcing Matt’s hand.
  • Defenestration :: We learn new words sometimes. As new words go, that one’s really fucking good.

(Ed. Note: Before you get all up-in-arms, we are well aware of the incessant clicking throughout the entire length of the audio. We’re not sure what caused it, but rest assured we are looking into it and will have it remedied before the next episode. Otherwise, every show from here on out would sound like it has a ticking time bomb of fury attached, and that’s no good. We apologize for the inconvenience this week, but hope you can forgive us while still enjoying the show.)

UPDATE! FROM TPL MOM

You guys make me laugh!  Michael will reveal my Tiger when the time comes, I just want to clarify the story about my Comerica Park seat location.  Way back when, when the Tigers weren’t such a fab team, I became a Braves fan (thanks to TBS broadcasting the games… globally, so it seemed)  With the Braves on nightly,  I became very familiar with Atlanta baseball.  One season, a young catcher caught my eye;  His name Javier Lopez, Javy for short.  He was smoking hot and eventually became a halfway decent ball player.  He was named NLCS MVP in 1996 and made the National League All-Star team in the 1997–98 season.  He had his best season in 2003 with a .328 batting average, 43 home runs and 109 RBI in 129 games; and a .687 slugging percentage. In that season he broke Todd Hundley’s record for most home runs hit in a season by a catcher (41) and was selected to the All-Star Game, winning the Silver Slugger Award and finishing fifth in the National League MVP ballot.  Drop dead gorgeous AND had some skills!  A winning combination.  I don’t recall the year, but the Braves were coming to Detroit for inter league play;  OMG, hopefully I would be able to see him in person, up close….and oh yeah, see his BB skills too.   The company I work for has had season tickets for more than 30 years and I am the gal that handles them for distribution to clients.  (Hollis…..you and Nicole sat in these seats on the Tiger dugout)  I have a great relationship with a couple of the guys in the ticket office and decided to give them a call to see what was available for purchase for the Braves series.  They all knew I fancied Javy….when the Tigers were looking for a catcher, I kept telling them to transfer me to Dave Dombrowski so we could talk about acquring this fine young player (and when I say fine I mean YOWSER!….um, I mean he was a great, all-around player)  So, my guys in the office were able to get me great seats; 2 rows above the visitor dugout right near the on-deck circle.  (Michael….your memory is correct…I did say something along the lines of…I wanna sit close enough to see him in the crouch and to be able to tell the denomination of the coins in his pocket…. and oh by the way, I wanna see his buns too!)  The seats were so phenomenal and not sold as season tickets, I decided to round up a few partners and become season ticket holders.  We still have them today and it’s been great the past few seasons.  We’ve endured many years of horrible ball, but it’s pretty cool to sit so close and see great players like Pujols, Jeter, Mauer and the like and to hear some of the ramblings of entertaining coaches like Ozzie Guillien.    I am honored to be part of your podcast and extra charmed that Hollis proclaimed his love;  I love you too CHollis!!  And while we’re on the subject of hot….what on earth has gotten into Rig?  He actually looks like he’s finally getting it.  I picked Javy when he was nothing….maybe this is a sign of great things to come for Johnny.  Disch….I feel a country song coming on….you game??  I’ve attached a photo I took from the seats;  Cabrerra with Joe Mauer catching /2008.     Who’s YOUR Tiger???   With love, (especially for Hollis)  TPL Mom

Patriotism abounds on the newest episode of TP:60 as we welcome back Greg (@captnorris5)  from The Winged Wheel and also welcome good friend Mike Serven (@mserven) – owner of the @RedWingsFeed news stream – to the show. Nothing is off limits with these guys in the house, and the discussion kicks off with a brief overview of Greg’s wall art before diving straight in to the current state of the Red Wings. We kick around the idea of the Wings rallying back to make this a series again before diving into a plethora of Twitter questions from you, the listeners. Topics include Justin Abdelkader’s stick work, the health of the Mule, breaking up the twins and whether or not Todd McLellan is a better coach than Mike Babcock. Serven’s presence also re-ignites the TP:60 “Night of Enchantment” question series, and there’s even a call to action for all of you listeners out there.

Finally. After almost two months of patient waiting and some serious sobering up, the TPL crew is back for another episode of TP:60 It’s Chris Hollis and Michael Petrella holding down the booth as Rob Discher is off Hosecopping his way around town, but that doesn’t mean the dynamic duo is left in the dark. Old friend and show regular Sean Gentille of the Sporting News stops by to break down all of the happenings in each of the playoff matchups, provide the keys to success for each of the series, and give Craig Custance flack for his Flyers love affair. The crew also discusses the benching of Mike Modano and the newly enforced ban on octopi being thrown in Detroit, which – according to Gentille – is somehow like the US War on Drugs. It’s another fantastic episode with an old friend of the show, which means you won’t want to miss a second.

It’s official: The Wings are slumping. But that doesn’t mean TP:60 is taking the night off, even with a Wings game in progress. That’s right: It’s the first ever TP:60 recorded during a game. Hollis and Petrella are back in studio, holding down the fort while “Horescop” Rob Discher works his magic somewhere in Texas. Joining the fray are good friends of the show Triple Deke Tyler and Natalie from The Scrappy Octopus, as well as the newest TPL member, @stevieroxelle, jumps straight into the mix as well. The group takes a quick pass through the recent troubles that the team is facing before diving straight in to storyteller hour with Petrella, who regales us with tales of travelling with the Wings. Following the stories, the group tackles the comments made by Coach Babcock following the 4-1 loss to the Predators and tries to figure out who needs to step up and light a fire under the Winged Wheelers. Of course, it can’t be a TP:60 without the hat trick of questions, and all three sets of answers won’t disappoint.
