Gotcha, thanks. I forgot about the different pay aspect of the two-way contracts. 

I remember with McCarty how he had to be waived numerous times when he had a two-way contract with the team. I just wasn’t sure if that was a difference in veteran player versus prospect.

Emmerton will have to be waived to be sent to Grand Rapids. IF he clears (which, as we learned with Ritola last season, isn’t a guarantee), he’ll be paid a different amount in the AHL than if he had stayed in the NHL. Thus, he’s on a two-way contract.

One- and two-way contracts don’t necessarily preclude waiver eligibility. You’re right — he has to make the Red Wings or be subjected to the waiver wire… even though he’s on a two-way deal.
