Besides all hockey commentators are better than say John Madden. I’ve got to listen to The Chief down here in Central FL for all the Lightning games. At least I can still say to Wade “Nineteen Never” so my Devils are crap this year. I’m not going to complain just yet. Good post Mike.

Can’t stand him calling ANYBODY’S games, much less Wings games.
On the flip side, one of the many benefits of living here in L.A. besides the weather (78 & sunny today, hahahaha suckers!!) is we have Bob Miller & Rick Fox calling Kings games on TV. These guys are consistently excellent, good local announcers without being homers, understated and professional.

Yes. Franzine was the worst. We imagined that Babs told them during the timeout on the five on three that if they didn’t score, he was making them wear jerseys with the Chico Resch pronunciation of their names spelled out. I am guessing this is why Franzen eventually scored at the end of the game, lest he be called “Francine” for the rest of the season.

I couldn’t agree more about the Gary Thorne missing ingredient comment here. The old team of Gary and Bill on ESPN was a classic. There’s something about hearing his voice that takes me right back to 1997…and makes me want to punch someone from Denver in the kidney.

But there I go again. Getting all nostalgic…

Datsyuk stole the puck along the boards and walked to the net, dishing it to a previously-off-screen Hull for the GWG on shot #60 in OT. Even in his rookie year he was making us yell “SHOO—HEYYEAH!!!”.

No tin foil hat on this one. You are spot on. Even after that I kind of felt Glenn Allan “Chico” Resch was attempting to minimize it. I don’t even know why as it appeared to be inadvertent.

Sigh! I miss Gary Thorne. It was such a pleasure to hear him call the games during the World Juniors…

They cut to commercial with Eaves still lying on the ice, and the comment came when they came back. It seemed the audio came back before they were ready for it, I’m paraphrasing here but it went something like:
Doc: Yeah, I don’t think we can clean this one up… He’s guilty.

It sounded like they were going to try and minimize an obvious (and pretty brutal) high stick. It’s the type of thing that had me reaching for my tinfoil hat justified or no.

I don’t understand the context… I feel like I missed something with the “he’s guilty” reference. What’s the deal there?

Re: Eaves. I heard that as well. I wanted to punch something each time I heard “Fraaan-ZEEN”

That would certainly make a lot more sense. And you may be right.

He spewed into it directly following a discussion about the current number of shots on goal, and I absolutely could have misunderstood. Allow me to make an edit.

Thanks for the catch.

In completely related news… kinda pissed I went through every single game recap counting shots now.
