Unfortunately in a cap world, guys like Maltby are going to have to make way for younger, less expensive players, and in the Wings’ case, players that they will lose if the try to keep them in the minors any longer. I would also love to see Kirk end up in Tampa or somewhere like that to continue his career, but I think he’ll serve as a great role model in Grand Rapids (assuming that he doesn’t make the team) during the regular season and then provide good leadership in the dressing room in the playoffs.
